Shiatsu: “pressure with the fingers”

Shiatsu is based on traditional Chinese medicine, which dates back thousands of years. In this therapy the therapist uses her fingers to apply pressure on the meridians in the body. The energy flow through the whole meridian is stimulated by applying pressure on specific points on the body.

Shiatsu massage is a powerful therapy which, along with acupuncture, is used as a regular therapy in several Asian countries. Shiatsu massage is an effective treatment for a broad variety of complaints and makes use of the meridian system, just like acupuncture.

That is an effective approach can also be derived from the list by the World Health Organisation which records 40 ailments, including lower back pain, RSI and headaches, that can be treated effectively with acupuncture.

Old techniques in a new world

Apart from acupressure massage other techniques are sometimes used during a session. This includes stretching, rocking and Moxa (local warmth treatment). It often turns out that the calm and attention of this therapy gets surprising results in these hectic times.
